The only plate here that is actually specified
Six listings in this family publish a bore and a weight. This one publishes a
bore, a weight, an outer diameter, a sleeve tolerance, a weight tolerance and a
test count.
Read against the rest of this shelf, the difference is not marketing. It is
that somebody measured.
Three hundred and fifty-seven millimetres
The outer diameter — the only one in this family.
It decides the height a loaded bar sits at. At Ø 357 mm the bar centre is about
178 mm off the floor, which is where a deadlift is meant to start. A smaller
plate starts the lift lower and changes the movement.
Fifty point five
The sleeve’s internal diameter, pressed stainless steel.
An Olympic sleeve is 50 mm. Half a millimetre of clearance is what lets a plate
slide on without binding and sit without rattling — too tight and it jams on a
warm bar, too loose and it moves under load.
Publishing the figure to a tenth of a millimetre is the tightest fitment
statement on this shelf.
Three per cent
The weight tolerance, with each plate weighed before dispatch.
Three per cent of 10 kg is 300 grams. Across four plates that is 1.2 kg of
possible error on a bar — enough to make a personal best meaningless.
No other plate in this family publishes a tolerance at all.
Fifty millimetres, and what that limits
Olympic only.
Of the eight barbells reviewed on this site, two have 50 mm sleeves: the
SPORTNOW and the HQ Germany. These do not go on a 25, 27 or 30 mm bar.
What is still not published
The thickness.
It is the one figure missing, and on an Olympic sleeve — which is longer than a
home bar’s — it matters less than elsewhere. It would still be the number that
says how many fit.
