Cork, and why it is a different kind of grip
The only cork mat on this shelf, and the only one that grips through its
material rather than through a pattern.
Three of the other six emboss a texture — waves, polygons, ridges — into a
synthetic surface; three state non-slip and describe no surface at all. An
embossed texture works dry. Wet, an embossed plastic surface becomes a set of
slippery ridges, which is why hands creep forward in a downward dog late in a
session.
Cork’s grip comes from the surface of the material itself. It is the reason
cork is used at all, and it is the one property that distinguishes this mat
from every other listing in this family.
Four millimetres
The thinnest mat here, against 8 mm at the other end.
That is a deliberate position on this shelf’s central trade. Thin means the
foot sits close to the floor and does not sink, so a standing balance holds —
which is what “secure transitions in dynamic flows” means.
It also means a kneecap on a tiled floor has 4 mm of cushioning. The two 8 mm
mats in this family exist for people who need more than that.

The lightest published mass on this shelf, and the only one that states what it
includes.
The other published figure in this family is 0.95 kg for a mat alone. Publishing
mat-plus-bag is the more honest number for a product sold as a travel mat.
